Authentic experiencer

According to Destination Canada I am an authentic experiencer. I do relate to this travel type, but I was interested to see what traveler I would be classified with because I related to more than just one.

I am from the Vancouver area, meaning I live about 45 minutes outside of the city. However, I do enjoy the city life but in small amounts. I love that I have access to the city when I want too but I am fully immersed in it every day. I actually prefer rural areas with lots of mountains and hiking.

My maternal grandparents are from originally from India and my father’s side traces back to Scottish roots. So, I have mixed background of different traditions, culture, and food. This has created an open-minded and curiosity aspect to my personality. I am very close to both my grandparents and it is always such a different experience visiting both of them. I love embracing new cultures and relating them back to my roots.

I am 21-year-old, female Canadian with a mixed ethnicity. I am a student but have worked in different areas in the Tourism field, including events and food and beverage. The authentic experiencer can be described as the following:

spontaneous

discrete

ethical

eco-conscious

independent

open-minded

curious

I really relate to being spontaneous when it comes to traveling. Also, being independent, open-minded and curious. These are all traits that I would use to describe myself so I can see why this type of traveler resonates for me.

The authentic experiencers travel values include:

  • learning travel – like to learn everything about a place, time, or culture
  • nature – enjoy vast natural settings and wonders
  • cultural immersion – prefer integrating into the local culture
  • personal development – seek self-improvement through understanding others

I think this is really what makes me an authentic experiencer because this is the reason why I travel. I love learning, immersing myself into new cultures, nature, hiking, sight-seeing and I believe that travelling is a great way to expand your views and improve yourself.
